There are so many companies providing courses in NLP that you can end up in information overload.  Here is a brief overview of the differences between the three main options when learning nlp:

1)  What is NLP? Introductory Workshop

Some companies may offer a diploma as a starting point, others focus on just giving you an overview in order to provide you with the information you need to make a decision about whether to take your nlp learning any further. This normally takes place over one or two days and will cover some of the basics of nlp principles and techniques and will give you some practical tools to take away with you for immediate implementation in your life.

2)  NLP Practitioner Certification Course

There are two main formats for the nlp practitioner course that you may come across. 

         *  The first is the 20 day format usually spread out over 4 days a month for 5 months.  There is no pre-study but you will be given a manual
             during the training.

         *  The second is the 7 day format usually done in a solid block of 1 week.  This format will involve pre-study usually in audio form along with a
            manual which allows the time in the training room to be reduced.

             At Certain Change we decided to add an additional day to allow more time, and also divide the course into two modules with a gap of a
             month in the middle to allow people to go back to 'the real world', have a play and a practise and to come back with more questions.  

 

What's included in the NLP Practitioner course content?

The main content of an nlp practitioner course is pretty standard.  Some companies run a basic nlp practitioner course as a stand alone option and then offer add ons of learning Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy®.  Other companies, including Certain Change, offer a powerful package of nlp practitioner course including certification in Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy® as the three tools all come from the same tool box and are incredibly powerful and effective when used together rather than in isolation.

3)  NLP Master Practitioner Certification Course 

Once again there are two generally accepted formats for the nlp master practitioner course that you may come across. 

          *  The first is the 20 day format usually spread out over 4 days a month for 5 months.  There is no pre-study but you will be given a manual
             during the training.

         *  The second is the 14 day format usually done in a solid block of 2 weeks.  This format will involve pre-study usually in audio form along
             with a manual which allows the time in the training room to be reduced.

             At Certain Change we do a 12 day course split across 3 modules allowing a gap of a month between each to allow people to go back to
             'the real world', have a play and a practise and to come back with more questions.  It also gives delegates the opportunity to work on their
             nlp modelling project.

The basic content of an nlp master practitioner course is pretty standard whichever company you choose.  As before, some companies run a basic nlp master practitioner course without any hypnosis or time line therapy® training .  Other companies, including Certain Change, choose to include certification to master practitioner level in hypnosis and time line therapy®.  Certain Change also include a full nlp modelling project, which is the basis on which nlp was developed.

Trainer qualifications

Check the trainer is qualified to teach what they are teaching and have experience doing so. You may also want to check what other qualifications or experience they have outside the field of NLP.

Stephen Bates is a Certified trainer of NLP, Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy to Master Practitioner level and Certain Change is a recognised provider of training in Hypnotherapy and Time Line Therapy®.

Stephen is also an HPC registered Physiotherapist and former teacher of Amatsu (Japanese physical therapy) with an extensive background in complementary medicine and martial arts.

Trainer experience

This is important as you want to be sure that the trainer not only has experience of teaching the theory of the course material, but also has a significant level of experience putting what they teach into practice so they can tell you what works best in a variety of situations.

Thousands of hours working with clients on a one to one basis to help them resolve a wide spectrum of problems, usually as a 'last chance saloon' with people who have been to all kinds of other therapists.

Trainer:Student ratio

This is important as it will give you an idea of how much time or attention you are likely to get from the trainer and how likely you are to get your questions answered.  The higher the ratio the less this will be likely.

There is also a coaching assistant in the room.

Group size

Some companies run courses with 100 + people in the room, others with groups of 8 and everything in between.  Make sure the group size is right for you and you are going to get the level of attention you need or are you going to get lost in the crowd?

Content

Does the course only cover nlp practitioner material with hypnosis and time line therapy available at an additional cost?  Or are all three offered within the same course?

On going support

Once you have completed your chosen course will you be left out in the cold on your own or will you have access to support of any kind as you start to implement what you have learned into your life?

The course that fulfills all of your other criteria may not be the most local so just make sure you have considered the additional costs of travel and accommodation. The course provider should be able to help with accommodation options.
